Either/or

Either/or questions are simple questions with two alternatives. This question type can be used to check whether the learners have picked up central parts of the curriculum. Apart from tests, either/or questions are often used in surveys.

Either/or questions consist of two parts: A question and two alternatives. You can use text, pictures, video and flash in both the question and the alternatives. To add either/or questions, enter a test and click the Questions tab. Click Add and select Either/Or from the drop-down list.

When you add alternatives, you can enter your own or use alternatives from the templates that are available in itslearning. If you want to use a predefined set of alternatives, click the Select from template icon to reveal the predefined alternatives, such as 'Yes/No' or 'True/False'.

When using the template answers you can add simple questions or statements, such as:

If you add your own alternatives, you can make the alternatives more advanced and customise your questions or statements. When you add your own alternatives, you do not have to limit your answers to one word. This allows for more creative questions, but remember, one alternative has to be correct and the other wrong.

Below is an example of an either/or question with pictures as alternatives. You can also use videos and flash as alternatives.

1. Click on a test.
2. Click the Questions tab.
3. Click Add.
4. Click Either/or.
5. Enter the question in the first text box.
6. Enter two different choices. Yes/No is predefined, but you can click Select from template to select other options. You can enter your own choices by clicking Select from template and Custom.
7. Click Save.

Preview
Before you save a question, itslearning allows you to preview it. To preview the question, click Preview. By clicking the preview link, you can see the question from the participants' perspective. Submit an answer to see how the feedback looks for a correct and incorrect answer. Click the Back link to continue editing the question.

4. Make your changes.
5. Click Save.
